AMERICAN BLANK
by Sebastian Hunter

People mocked you but no one meant it
Hebrew proverbs like the parent-teacher poultice
A tribunal decides I'm not that cosmopolitan of a guy
In a moment a jogger will apply himself to the pavement
And season whatever is human, wouldn't you love to have known
What it meant to be sovereign                      and palatial
Walking westwards through the sprawling
With lightness, into the realm
Various Lincolns
If you know where to look
There are still lakes without lovers
There are still movies based on the lake
