Front of the stage; standing
sentinel, thin arms crossed,
watching the crowd get lost
in another groove. Elevation
steady; energy, a seamless
coalescence of elements
before a shift in rhythm
heightens the mood. Unstoppable
momentum, building to that
signature crescendo when
at last, she grabs the microphone
and unleashes that unbridled shriek
of Alabama soul, just to remind
the good folks that this
is a rock and roll show.
With stories and poems appearing in Livina Press, Transients Mag, Urban Pigs Press, Fevers of the Mind and Jazz House Publications, Dezmond Davanti is currently working on a poetry chapbook.
